The Byrdsongs house band consists of some of the UKs top session players. See below.
Steve Byrd - Guitar
Initially a self-taught guitarist born in Sheffield, Byrd joined the band ZZebra for their second album Panic, after his old friend Tommy Eyre had recommended him for the job. With ZZebra he played the reading festival in 1975 and recorded another album, 'Take it or leave it'. In his late teens, Steve was heavily influenced by the rock band 'Patto', featuring the late great Ollie Halsall on guitar.
In 1978 he replaced Paul Simon in Ian North's band Neo, a new wave band formed in 1977. Neo recorded an album in Ian Gillan's studio, and after Gillan had heard them he hired Byrd and bassist John McCoy for his own band, which was also named Gillan.
The band recorded their first album Gillan in September 1978. It was not released in the UK but sold well as an import. In 1982 Byrd auditioned for pop singer Kim Wilde and became a long-term member of Kim's backing band. With Kim, he co-wrote 'Another Step', 'Hey Mister Heartache' and many other songs as well as playing on some of her albums. He toured with Kim until the mid-90s.
In the 90s he was also a member of '4 Bills and a Ben', a band with flexible line-up formed by Johnny Warman which also included Jeff Rich and John Edwards from Status Quo and Spike Edney, the "5th member" of Queen. In 2001 he played in The Mods at the Steve Marriott tribute in 2001.
Other acts Steve Byrd toured or recorded with were The Buggles, Martha and the Muffins, Billy Ocean, Ruby Turner, Samantha Fox, A Flock of Seagulls, The Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, Bonnie Tyler, Alec Mansion, Shakin' Stevens, Heartbeat UK and Kim Appleby and The Kids From Fame, as well as writing and recording the album 'Visions' with Lena Fiagbe.
Notably, with Kim Wilde he opened the show for the Michael Jackson 'Bad' tour, which boasted 7 sold out nights at the Wembley stadium and also had shows at all of the European Olympic stadiums. This culminated at Aintree race track, with an audience of 180,000. Also with Kim Wilde, Steve opened for David Bowie's 'Greatest Hits' tour of Europe.
Steve Byrd has also written songs for other artists, as well as music for film and TV used in The Simpsons, Baywatch,Beverly Hills 90210 Austin Powers Goldmember and many other long lasting TV series.

Steve Barnacle - Bass
I have known Steve's family for many, many years - Steve has played with a myriad of artists including Tina Turner and Queen. He is the bass player in The Mods and has kindly agreed to play on Byrdsongs recordings.
Simon Eyre - Guitar
Simon grew up on the same road as Steve, in Hackenthorpe, Sheffield. He is the younger brother of the late great Tommy Eyre, who played a pivotal role in Steve's career enabling him to move to London and be signed to Polydor records with the band Zzebra.
Simon is a fine all round musician and has many credits to his name. He is a loving family man and still finds time to play and tour with a diverse collection of artists.
Steve hopes he is a Blades supporter.
Johnny has sung with Maria Callas, Tito Gobbi, Ringo Starr, Peter Gabriel, Cheap Trick, Asia, Dave Gilmour, Kate Bush, Ezio, Patrick Juvet, Paul Young, Chris Thompson, Fish, Humble Pie 2000, Steve Ellis, Robin Beck, Harry Nilsson.
Rachel started guitar lessons with me a few years ago. She is doing very well at that.
I suggested she tried the bass as she picks with her thumb like the old style Motown players.
She fills the bottom of the track with a deep sensuous pulse.
